There are 20 RI Children's Book Award nominees. Voting takes place in February and the award is announced in March. Any student is allowed to vote if he/she has read at least 3 of the nominees. Of course, reading all of the nominees is a terrific goal for a reader to set for his/herself. It's a great way to be aware of some of the best children's literature that has recently been published.
This week I am posting 5 book trailers. My hope is that:
1. watching the book trailers makes students want to read the books and
2. watching the book trailers gives students ideas about how they could do book recommendations using technology.
We'll be exploring #2 more during the school year...

Our library volunteers are busy getting tickets ready for the summer reading Kindle raffle. We are collecting summer reading logs and reflections until tomorrow, Friday, September 13th. Be sure to put your name and homeroom number on your sheets and bring them to the library ASAP!
We have a few blocks that are still available if you would like to volunteer at the HMS library. We are also in need of parent volunteers to help us with a new endeavor: the HMS book room! Every teacher has graciously donated multiple copies of book titles to the book room for students to engage in book clubs in their classrooms. 22 teachers donating their books adds up to quite a hefty amount of books. If you are interested, please contact our HMS library volunteer coordinator, Jenny Fitzpatrick at jennyfitz@
